Details

Art making is a way to make sense of the millions of tangential streams of information that are encountered daily. I begin by using small drawings and/or collages as a visual reference, enlarging them onto the picture plane using paint or graphite. During repeated periods of improvisation, I add, subtract, rotate, and transform the composition until a balance of visual organization and narrative meaning is achieved. Like a jazz musician who improvises with multiple layers of sound in a recording studio, I try to keep an open mind. This practice has led to new collage-minded construction techniques, large-scale drawings, and deeper confidence in the use of intuition and automatism to pull out meaningful and cathartic images.
