DFP Statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The storied histories of Fresno and our Downtown give us much to be proud of. Nonetheless, like that of many communities, our history also bears the stain of racial exclusion and dispossession, with lasting economic impacts.

Recognizing this, the Downtown Fresno Partnership (DFP) is dedicated to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive place for all in Downtown Fresno. Our vision is for Downtown to lead positive change in our city and the Valley by actively dismantling inequities and engaging with all community members.

As facilitators of that vision, we embrace diversity as central to DFP’s mission. We prioritize diverse representation within our team and throughout Downtown, encompassing not only demographics and socioeconomics but also the range of our ideas, perspectives, and values. This diversity strengthens both Downtown and our organization.

DFP ensures diversity internally by seeking broad and representative candidates for our team and board of directors.

Externally, we lead initiatives to foster equity, inclusivity, and representation in Downtown Fresno’s economy and community. Examples include supporting small businesses owned by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC); hosting culturally diverse and community-responsive events; and promoting BIPOC-led ventures through programs like Create Here. Programs we continue to develop alongside our community partners will aim to further strengthen the ladder of equitable opportunity that Downtown provides.

Inclusion is fundamental to our goal of providing equal access to opportunities for all. We will seek to ensure that in our revitalized Downtown, families and communities that have given their longstanding support will not only remain, but participate in the upside. We strive for a Downtown where everyone can thrive economically, express their culture freely, and feel a sense of belonging.

Beyond this statement of our values, DFP’s staff and board are committed to achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion through ongoing learning and continuous improvement.
