New restaurants open in Downtown Fresno

Teazer World Tea MarketDining in Downtown Fresno presents a world of delicious possibilities, and those options just keep growing. Spring 2009 has seen the opening of three new downtown restaurants and cafes, the expansion of another, and the reopening of a longtime favorite hangout.

Much of the activity is centered around the emerging downtown dining & entertainment district along Van Ness Avenue and Kern Street. The newly renovated historic Virginia Hotel Building at Kern & L Streets is now home to two new restaurants: Kebab Express, which specializes in Medeterannean and Armenian cuisine, and Fresno's Newsroom Cafe, which serves everything from coffee to burgers. These openings come less than three months after the opening of Hero's Sports Lounge and Pizza Company at Van Ness between Kern and Inyo.

Just one block away from the Virginia Hotel, the popular downtown sushi bar Sushia Hana, located in the Crescent Building at Kern & M Street, opened their newly expanded dining room in March as well. And in the Galleria Building at Kern & N Street, popular Tower District hangout Teazer World Tea Market has opened a new Downtown location, complete with a outdoor patio. Another Galleria restaurant, The Mexicatessen, is undergoing renovations and will reopen in April.

These new dining options are in addition to the Holiday Inn Skyroom, which officially reopened to the public the last week in February, and is now open evenings from Tuesday thru Friday. The space is available for rent for private parties on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
