PROPERTY OWNERS VOTE TO
RETURN TRAFFIC TO FULTON MALL

October 2011

 

At a special board meeting of the PBID Partners of Downtown Fresno, held on October 4, 2011, the board of directors voted to support the two Fulton Mall Alternatives that would re-connect the traffic grid.  The favorite option is a pedestrian friendly, tree lined, two-way street with wide sidewalks.  The second choice would be a more meandering two-way street that would retain many of the Malls fountains.  This vote comes after over two years of study, discussions, meetings and review of other pediestrian Malls.  A copy of one such study is available here

Like many pedestrian Malls around the country, The Fulton Mall has long since been plagued with low rents, high vacancy rates, little to no activity after 5pm, poor visibility of the Mall from other streets, and declining foot traffic.  PBID Partners of Downtown Fresno recognizes that the art collection on the Mall is an incredible assest to the Downtown and must be cared for in every possible scenario of the Fulton Malll's outcome.  The PBID plans to work diligently with the City to ensure that a vision for the Fulton Mall includes appropriate reverance for the art collection as well as a targeted marketing effort to attract new tenants and businesses to the Fulton Corridor.

Our support of the plan to re-open the Mall, was not arrived at hastily.  We represent the property owners that have a true vested interest in this Mall and we believe that this is the best approach to renew the vitality of the heart of our Downtown. 

PBID Partners of Downtown Fresno was established on January 1, 2011, as a public/private prartnership partially self-funded by a property owner assessment.  Our mission is to enhance the vitality of our Downtown by improving, promoting and developing the historic Central Business District.  The plans are noted below.
