The Cultural Arts District Association (CADA) is formed by stakeholders, with the vision of creating a vibrant cultural arts district in our 16 blocks north of the Fulton Mall. The vision is part of the City’s 2010 Plan.
We stepped up in 2005 to build the nonprofit organization to support strategic growth and are currently expanding our base of stakeholders and promoting events. Our District is home to five major arts organizations--the Met, Arte Americas, Warnors, African American Museum, and Valley Public Television (with future plans for the County Library and the History Museum). We also encompass several great historic treasures--Warnors, Met, Trade Center, and historic homes on L Street. Newer endeavors like the Pearl Building, Broadway Studies and Vagabond Lofts point the way to artist housing and studios.
We are also a District with a wide range of interests—churches, small businesses and senior housing. CADA’s goal is to coordinate these separate interests through collaborative opportunities, event by event, to create a cohesive and attractive area. Each signature event has a different focus, yet each with a goal of becoming a future major annual attraction in the District. Christmas at Warnors features music choirs and ensembles, creating an event crossing faith-based and artistic interests. Future plans expand this holiday event throughout the District to include the Met’s trees and Arte’s posadas. A future Children’s Day in the Spring will coordinate individual efforts of Arte Americas, Met, KVPT, and the Library into one larger, diverse event for children. In 2007, the organization partnered with the Fresno Coalition for Arts, Science and History (FCASH) to initiate a Cultural Arts Conference.
Also in 2007, the District conducted an assessment of its area, block by block, with historic, ownership and land use information. Currently it is working with individual owners to promote the cultural arts in the District, along with coordinated events.
